Flawed Data in BMJ Mammography Study

Discredited and obsolete data used in Raftery and Chorozoglou, published Dec. 8 in the British Medical Journal, underestimated lives saved by mammography screening by half. The authors’ comparison of anxiety from false positives to breast cancer deaths is also questionable.

Radiologist sentenced to prison in Atlanta

(ATLANTA) - Rajashahker Reddy, a radiologist who formerly owned a prominent radiology practice, was recently sentenced to prison on healthcare fraud, wire fraud, and mail fraud. He will be in prison for four years, six months in total followed by three years of supervised release. Furthermore, the court also issued a fine of up to $15,000. He was ordered to pay restitution in the amount over $900,000+.

Solving a "Big" problem in Radiology

"We can't x-ray him, he's too big!"...This was a statement I had from a radiology student earlier today when approached with an abdominal x-ray on a morbidly obese patient. My answer? (DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING) -- Like many practices, we deal with variability of staffing and variability of workflow. There are times of the year that our business is up, and times when it is down. There are times when everyone wants time off (summer) and times when we are fully staffed.

New National Poll: 89 Percent of Women Said Mammograms Vital to Their Health

Reston, VA (Sept. 27, 2011) – According to a recent poll of 1,000 American voters conducted for the American College of Radiology, nearly 9-in-10 women reported that having a regular mammogram gave them a feeling of control over their own health care.
