Chief of Radiology at Academic Institution Steps Down

(SOURCE: DesMoines Register) - "Widely considered a weak and ineffective advocate for the department, an uninvolved mentor, and a poor recruiter" is what the review committee revealed about this Chief of Radiology at a major academic institution, specifically the University of Iowa -- Dr. Laurie Fajardo has unfortunately needed to leave the post effective January 1st.  The review committee also cites that the chairman “has contributed to the low morale that appears to affect most faculty members including all ranks and tracks. Beyond low morale, the faculty members believe they are overworked, underappreciated and undercompensated."

Per news reports, Dr. Fajardo is leaving the post that pays an annual salary of $501,000. Furthermore, she is accused of racism by Dr. Malik Juweid, a member of the department who was called an "academic terrorist" by Dr. Fajardo. Per the Des Moines Register, Dr. Fajardo made derogatory and racist remarks against Asians in the department.

Dr. Edmund Franken will step up to assume the role of acting department chairman.
