Technetium supply to tighten further

(DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING) -- This week brings bad news for the nuclear medicine community. The already constrained supply of technetium in the U.S. could get even tighter in the coming weeks. The Dutch High Flux Reactor at Petten, the Netherlands, is scheduled to go down for repairs lasting until August. And restart of the reactor at Chalk River, in Ontario, which was supposed to offset this loss and, eventually, normalize the supply of molybdenum-99 and the technetium it generates, may be delayed.… Continue

Whole-body airport scanners are basically safe—or are they?

CMS releases proposed 'meaningful use' rules

(DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING) -- The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) just released proposed rules for "meaningful use" of electronic medical records. Radiologists who can prove they are making "meaningful use" of certified electronic records are eligible for $44,000 in Medicare incentives starting in 2011. That's per physician. Airport Full Body Scanners and Radiation - American College of Radiology (ACR) Statement

Physician Payment Cut Delayed

(RESTON/ACR) -- Based on the 2010 Medicare fee schedule final rule, the 21.2 percent cut to the conversion factor was scheduled to be implemented Jan. 1, 2010. However, as of December 19, 2009, Congress has passed legislation to apply a zero percent update to the conversion factor through Feb. 28, 2010. This means that instead of the 21.2 cut, the conversion factor for January and February 2010 will be the same as 2009.
