Event Description

Target Audience: All registered sonographers, student sonographers, and radiologic technologists who desire entry level training with vascular ultrasound.

 

Overall goal of activity: To enhance the knowledge and skills in the areas of vascular technology, sonographic principles and instrumention, and other topics related to sonography

 

Description: - This course focuses on the technical aspects of ultrasound assessment of extremity venous system including diagnosis of venous thrombosis, venous insufficiency and non-vascular pathology found during venous examination. Topics will include an introduction to ultrasound physics and its specific application to venous hemodynamics, anatomy of lower and upper extremity venous systems, mechanisms of disease, pitfalls of venous duplex, and scanning tips. 

 

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe general Doppler physics principles associated with peripheral venous hemodynamics
  • Identify the difference between normal and abnormal venous imaging spectral analysis
  • Describe the anatomy encountered during a venous duplex imaging examination
  • Explain the signs and symptoms associated with venous disease
  • Identify the ultrasound appearance of normal venous anatomy and blood flow.
  • Demonstrate optimal scanning techniques and proficiency in “knobology” through application of Doppler principles
  • Described the characteristics of the venous Doppler signals obtained during venous duplex imaging
  • Define and become familiar with different venous disease states.
