Course: Cutting out the Middle Man: Core Topics in Radiology (a CME-certified course)

This five-day seminar is designed for the radiologists in clinical practice. It will focus on review of relevant disease processes as well as recent advances in cross sectional imaging including MDCT, MRI, PET and US. It will focus on relevant disease processes as well as indications, advanced techniques, practical tips, pitfalls, protocols and interpretation. This year's course will also include lectures related to CT radiation dose, advanced CT imaging of the thorax, MRI of head and neck cancer, and musculoskeletal imaging.
Course participants will have the opportunity to interact directly with the faculty in question and answer sessions following each lecture. Course participants will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss specific issues that they consider interesting or controversial.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Apply the latest principles, techniques and optimization in order to perform advanced CT of the thorax
Solve imaging problems related to the use of MR imaging of the shoulder and knee
Optimize and better interpret PET/CT in evaluating cancer of the head and neck
Effectively utilize US in the evaluation of cystic adnexal lesions
Use the Fleischer guidelines to minimize pitfalls in the evaluation of lung nodules
Evaluate patients with MRI in an attempt to differentiate between the various types of muscle injuries
Explain what "meaningful use" means for radiology
Enumerate what the radiologist needs to know in evaluating patients prior to transoral robotic surgery
Identify new challenges related to the MDCT of fibrotic lung disease
Utilize new clinical applications in the use of new diagnostic methods in ultrasound including elastography and contrast agents

Penn Radiology will distribute CME syllabus materials to registered attendees on a flash drive. You are welcome to bring your laptop to the lectures should you wish to follow along electronically.
