New Resources for IIPs Include Practical Imaging Informatics Text

April 23, 2009 – Leesburg, VA – The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) announces tools and training to help medical informatics professionals stay competitive in a rapidly changing environment. Shrinking budgets and critical system reviews are requiring imaging informatics professionals (IIPs) to continually grow in their positions. SIIM can help IIPs become essential to their organizations through two intensive “bootcamp” courses at the SIIM 2009 Annual Meeting, June 4-7, Charlotte, NC.

The SIIM 2009 Imaging Informatics Professional Bootcamp targets not only imaging informatics professionals to help them prepare with confidence for the ABII IIP certification exam, but also physicians, PACS administrators, physicists, IT managers, technologists, and engineers who are looking to gain a stronger understanding of the fundamentals of the PACS environment and the competencies and skills required for practicing and administering imaging enterprise management systems. The IIP Bootcamp is a full-day, intensive, pre-conference training course on Wednesday, June 3.

For busy physicians, knowledge of basic informatics principles is essential to become more productive and efficient. The SIIM 2009 Imaging Physician Bootcamp is an expanded course that has been enhanced to promote imaging principles across the enterprise. This informatics bootcamp is designed to provide radiologists and physicians in other specialties who use imaging in their practice with fundamental, up-to-date solutions for current workflow and communication challenges. Joining the SIIM expert faculty will be renowned pathology informaticists Drs. John Gilbertson and Michael Feldman, who will specifically address digital imaging issues in pathology. The Imaging Physician Bootcamp is a half-day course on Sunday, June 7, incorporated into the annual meeting program schedule.

SIIM also is pleased to introduce a new tool for IIPs – the Practical Imaging Informatics: Foundations and Applications for PACS Professionals text book – the first comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and easy-to-use guide to PACS and imaging informatics. Practical Imaging Informatics describes the foundations of information technology and clinical image management, details typical daily operations, and discusses rarer complications and issues. Written by world-renown experts from SIIM, this book is an indispensible reference for the practicing IIP, those studying for a certification exam, and any professional who needs quick access to the nuts and bolts of imaging informatics. The book will be introduced at the SIIM 2009 Annual Meeting.
