ABR Oral Board Statistics, Pass Rate, Condition Rate, Fail Rate explained

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) releases some statistics regarding the rates candidates pass for oral boards. While most candidates are very anxious of failure, in reality, a large majority of candidates pass the oral boards on their first time. Oral board pass rates that are published do not include conditioning. Those candidates who condition the oral boards will eventually pass but are in a separate pool of statistics.

Facts:

- The condition rate for first time takers range between 15 to 20%.
- Between 75% to 85% of first time takers pass the oral boards outright
- The fail rate is approximately 2% to 8%
- Failure rate for repeat test takes are between 25% to 50%

These numbers are constantly in flux and are only estimates based on previously published ABR statistics. Please refer to the main ABR website at http://www.theabr.org for more details
