The amount of radiation that people are receiving from medical sources is increasing, and this includes children. Film-screen receptors have narrow latitude and fixed speed whereas digital receptors have a wide latitude and variable speed. Digital imaging provides a flexible system that can easily result in overexposures to the patient without the operators’ knowledge. As professionals in medical imaging we are accountable to our patients and must adhere to radiations safety practices that provide optimal care with the least amount of radiation, and comply with regulatory requirements. You will learn how inappropriate applications of image processing can cause an artifactual appearance of anatomy resulting in a misdiagnosis. This class is designed for the imaging professional to give you a complete understanding of digital radiography and how to minimize the possibility of overexposures and inconsistent results.
The Image Gently Campaign is an initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging. The campaign goal is to change practice by increasing awareness of the opportunities to promote radiation protection in the imaging of children. You will receive the information and tools to assure compliance. Sign up early you don’t want to miss this class!
