Working in collaboration with the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Gulfcoast Ultrasound designed this workshop to complement participation in the Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia program. Participants will have an opportunity to perform ultrasound-guided injection and anesthesia techniques on cadaver specimens.

The optional session will develop skills, enhance confidence, and minimize barriers to integrate these techniques into clinical practice.

Registration is limited to individuals who are registered for the August 27, 2010 course.

Course Objectives:

At the completion of the program the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the basic fundamental of ultrasound physics and instrumentation.
2. Explain the advantages of using ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques.
3. Identify the topographic and cross-sectional brachial plexus anatomy.
4. Demonstrate imaging techniques for performing ultrasound-guided upper extremities anesthesia using interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular and axillary approaches on live models.
5. Demonstrate imaging techniques for performing ultrasound-guided lower extremities anesthesia using femoral, popliteal and saphenous approaches on live models.
6. List the indications and applications for performing ultrasound-guided central venous catheter placement and apply skills using inanimate phantoms.
7. Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret examinations.
