Course Objectives:
At the completion of the program the physician, rheumatologist, sonographer or other medical professional participant should be able to:
1. Explain U/S physics principles and imaging fundamentals for musculoskeletal imaging.
2. Describe techniques and protocols for performing shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, knee, ankle and foot ultrasound examinations.
3. Identify normal anatomy during musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
4. Explain the capabilities and limitations of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
5. Identify sonographic appearance of commonly seen pathology of the shoulder, knee, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle and foot.
6. Discuss the indications and findings for musculoskeletal sonography in rheumatology applications.
7. Explain the use of MSK sonography for diagnosis and ultrasound-guided interventions for rheumatology applications.
8. State the indications and benefits of MSK ultrasound for sports medicine injuries.
9. Describe “in-plane” and “out of plane” injection and aspiration techniques.
10. Discuss the indications/findings for MSK hip and spine sonography.
11. Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret MSK U/S exams.
12. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting under supervised conditions until an accepted proficiency level has been achieved.
