Course Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the basic fundamentals of ultrasound physics/instrumentation to differentiate imaging artifacts.
2. Explain the operation of the ultrasound system controls and appropriate transducer selection for different applications.
3. Perform ultrasound evaluation of the trauma patient (F.A.S.T. exam).
4. Perform the scan protocols for focused evaluation of the abdomen (including aorta), female pelvis and adult heart.
5. Identify normal/abnormal image characteristics of the abdomen (including aorta), female pelvis, first trimester OB, ectopic pregnancy & adult heart.
6. Describe image orientation, transducer preparation, scan protocols for performing an endovaginal GYN exam.
7. Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret emergency ultrasound examinations.
8. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.

Who Can Attend?

Emergency, trauma, critical care, internal medicine and family practice physicians who will be involved with performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations. Advanced sonographers and PAs also welcome.
