Course Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

1. Identify sonographic characteristics associated with hepatobiliary disease, pancreatic pathology, renal disease and fluid localization.
2. Explain the role of ultrasound for extended applications including, but not limited to, pneumothorax, ocular and musculoskeletal procedures in the emergency department.
3. Demonstrate the use of ultrasound guidance for vascular access.
4. Explain imag. techniques & scan planes used in cardiac U/S.
5. Recognize normal cardiac structures & identify ultrasound findings associated with cardiomyopathy, pericardial effusion, cardiogenic shock, dissection & other hypotensive conditions.
6. Discuss imaging techniques, normal and abnormal characteristics associated with lower extremity venous examinations.
7. Explain examination techniques, normal sonographic findings and commonly seen abnormalities associated with testicular ultrasound.
8. Describe scanning techniques used in foreign body localization.
9. Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret emergency ultrasound examinations.
10. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an acceptable level of proficiency and appropriate hospital credentialing has been achieved.

• 2D cardiac scan planes and normal anatomy
• HOT TOPIC! Sonography in shock and sepsis
• Cardiac pathology, pericardiocentesis, case studies
• U/S-guided vascular access
• Venous imaging techniques
• Soft tissue infections, musculoskeletal and foreign body localization applications
• Testicular and scrotal U/S
• U/S-guided procedures
• Interactive case studies interpretation session
• Ocular emergencies
• Evaluation for Pneumothorax
• Hands-on sessions

Who Can Attend?

Emergency, trauma, internal medicine and family practice physicians who will be involved with performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations. Advanced sonographers and PAs also welcome. Participants should have a minimum of 3 months scanning experience before attending this program.
