Course Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
• Explain the basic fundamentals of U/S physics/instrumentation.
• Describe the abdominal cross-sectional anatomy, scan protocols and routine measurements.
• Identify normal imaging characteristics of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and abdominal vasculature.
• Discuss imaging characteristics of commonly seen pathology associated with the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, retroperitoneum, and vasculature.
• Describe scanning protocols and normal/abnormal characteristics for the evaluation of the thyroid, testes/scrotum and appendix.
• Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret abdominal ultrasound examinations.
• Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.

• Aorta and abdominal vasculature/case studies
• Liver/GB/Spleen sonography and pathology
• Scan protocol, live demo
• Pancreas sonography
• Renal sonography
• Ultrasound evaluation of superficial structures: thyroid, scrotum/testes (lecture only) and appendix
• Pathology and case studies
• Abdominal, pathology interactive interpretation session
• Hands-on sessions
Who Can Attend?
Sonographers, physicians, PAs and other medical professionals learning how to perform abdominal sonography. Also, physicians who are at an entry level of interpreting examinations. Physician participants may include (but are not limited to) those involved with: internal medicine, emergency medicine, family practice, gastroenterology and urology.
