Objectives & Topics
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the upper & lower extremity venous systems.
2. Discuss Doppler/color physics and be able to (sonographers) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this information for recognizing technical errors which may result in misdiagnosis.
3. Perform routine scan protocols, and document Doppler waveforms for venous evaluation of the lower extremity including pre and post vein ablation evaluation.
4. Identify normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics and waveform characteristics for identifying venous disease.
5. Recognize image characteristics of acute versus chronic DVT.
6. Discuss the use of Ultrasound-Guidance and its role in the treatment of venous insufficiency.
7. Perform evaluation for venous insufficiency to determine suitability for vein therapy treatment and to determine patency of perforators.
8. State the diagnostic criteria for identifying significant venous insufficiency.
9. Increase the participants’ knowledge to better perform and/or interpret lower extremity venous evaluation for vein closure procedures.
10. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.

Course Topics:
• Doppler fundamentals
• Venous anatomy/scan techniques and normal characteristics
• Evaluation of venous pathology
• Live demo: evaluation for DVT and venous insufficiency
• Upper extremity venous evaluation
• Saphenous vein mapping
• U/S evaluation for pre and post vein ablation therapy
• Venous insufficiency and perforator evaluation
• Hands-on sessions

Target Audience
Sonographers, physicians, PAs and other medical professionals who are at an entry level of performing venous exams for eval. of DVT & pre & post U/S eval. for vein ablation procedures. Physician may include (but are not limited to) internists, cardiologists, radiologists and general/vascular surgeons.
