Event Description

Cardiac CT Visiting Fellowship with Optional Cardiac MR Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

April 11-15, 2011

Learning Objectives

This fellowship has been designed for radiologists and cardiologists wishing to incorporate new cardiac applications of CT and MR technology into their clinical practice.

Topics include instrumentation, principles of patient selection, imaging protocols, study interpretation and reporting. Specific applications include ischemic, nonischemic, and congenital heart disease, valvular, pericardial, and electrophysiologic disease, and extensive coverage of coronary artery imaging.

Introductory cardiology topics will be provided for radiologists along with basic radiology principles (including non-cardiac pathology in the chest) for cardiologists. In addition, this activity will provide sufficient case material to satisfy guidelines for ACC/AHA Level I training in Cardiac CT and approximately one-half of the case requirements for Level II.

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:
Part I
1. Utilize MR in CVI with increased knowledge of imaging methods and principles and the relevant anatomy and pathophysiology of common cardiovascular disorders.
2. Evaluate ischemic heart disease, congenital, valvular, myocardial and pericardial disease as well as cardiac tumors using MR.

Part II
1. Utilize CT in CVI with increased knowledge of imaging methods and principles and the relevant anatomy and pathophysiology of common cardiovascular disorders.
2. Select the appropriate patients and identify how to prepare them for Cardiac CT.
3. Use the correct techniques to perform Cardiac CT.
4. Evaluate atherosclerotic, valvular, congenital, and electrophysiologic disease using cardiac CT.
5. Describe relevant training guidelines for Cardiac CT & MR practice.
6. Independently process and interpret cardiac CT data sets.
