Statement of Need
This course is designed to provide the tools for participants to enhance interpretation skills utilizing the latest imaging technologies, including CT, MR, PET/CT, SPECT, and ultrasound. Lectures will cover evidence-based practice techniques and protocols for improved diagnostic accuracy in cardiac, neuro, thoracic, abdominal and musculoskeletal applications. It will further review new directions in early cancer detection, dose reduction strategies and an assessment of medical imaging technology innovations.
Target Audience
This course is intended for practicing radiologists and radiologic nurses, physician assistants, technologists, scientists, residents, fellows and others who are interested in current techniques and applications for advanced diagnostic imaging.
Learning Objectives
• Apply current indications, protocols and imaging techniques for cardiac evaluation, including strategies to reduce dosage without compromising image quality.
• Evaluate current technical advances in cardiac imaging hardware and software, as well as the utilization of these tools to gain rapid, detailed functional and anatomical information for cardiac assessment.
• Assess the current indications and utilization of advanced imaging technologies to improve cancer detection, staging, guiding interventions, and assessing response to therapy.
• Optimize protocols and processing parameters for assessing intracranial anatomy and function for potential neural disease cases such as stroke and dementia.
• Assess the current indications, benefits, and downsides associated with MR and MDCT imaging of the musculoskeletal system, and apply techniques to mitigate artifacts and pitfalls.
• Evaluate current and future technological innovations in imaging, including multimodality systems such as SPECT and MR-PET, and clinical advances in dose reduction and radiation safety strategies.
• Effectively utilize ultrasound and other imaging modalities in the evaluation of gynecologic diseases and complications.
