(ATLANTA) -- Dr. Rajashakher Reddy, a board-certified radiologist and president of teleradiology company RSI (Reddy Solutions) based out of Atlanta, Georgia was arraigned this past Friday on US federal charges of wire fraud, mail fraud, healthcare fraud, and obstruction of justice. Dr. Reddy is now out on bail prior to the actual court case. Dr. Rajashakher Reddy could be facing up to 20 years in federal prison or a $250,000 fine (per count) resulting in up to $1M total fines, if found guilty of charges.
According to the federal records of the indictment, between May of 2007 and January of 2008, Dr. Rajashakher Reddy allegedly signed and submitted thousands of radiology reports without reviewing or interpreting the radiographs or other imaging. Dr. Reddy had employed RPAs (Radiology Physician Assistants) to preview films but they are not allowed legally to make final interpretations. Allegations state that Dr. Reddy simply signed off on their reports without reviewing the actual images. This has affected interpretations that were provided via his company, RSI, which provided teleradiology coverage to numerous hospitals in the region.
An official from Health and Human Services and the Office of the Inspector General states "This case is a clear violation of the public's trust.. false claims that are submitted for payment, our nation's health insurance programs and beneficiaries suffer."
