John A. Patti, MD, Elected Chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors

ACR Names New Officers

Reston, VA —John A. Patti, MD, FACR of Boston, MA, has been elected chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors. Dr. Patti officially took office during the ACR 87th Annual Meeting and Chapter Leadership Conference, held in Washington, DC, May 15-19, 2010. He will serve as chair from May 2010 to May 2011, and thereafter will be eligible to be re-elected for an additional year.

Dr.Patti is a radiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1975, he joined the radiology staff at the North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA, a community-based institution, where he practiced for 33 years. He has been active in radiology management, serving his former 30-member private practice group as its CFO from 1983 to 2006, CEO from 2002 to 2006, and also serving, since 1996, as a member and chairman of various management committees at Partners HealthCare Inc.

He is a former vice chair of the ACR, past president of the Massachusetts Radiological Society and past chairman of the ACR Managed Care Committee. Dr. Patti is a former member of the ACR Council Steering Committee, Governance Committee and Coding & Nomenclature Committee. Since 2004, he has been a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors, serving initially as Chairman of the ACR Commission on Economics. He is the current chair of RADPAC, the political action committee of the American College of Radiology Association, and serves on the editorial board for the Journal of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Patti received his baccalaureate from Boston College in 1967 and his MD from Yale University in 1971.

ACR Officers Continued:

ACR Vice Chair — Paul H. Ellenbogen, MD, FACR, former Speaker of the ACR Council and Secretary Treasurer of the ACR, was elected in January by the Board of Chancellors to serve as Vice Chair from May 2010 to May 2011, and thereafter will be eligible to be re-elected for an additional year. Ellenbogen is a diagnostic radiologist and finance committee chair of Southwest Imaging and Interventional Specialists in Dallas, TX, and a clinical professor of radiology at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Health Science Center Dallas. He serves as chair of the ACR Commission on Human Resources and chaired the ACR Governance Committee, and Budget and Finance Committee.

ACR President — James H. Thrall, MD, FACR, of Boston, MA, was elected by the Council to serve as ACR’s president. Dr. Thrall is former chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors. He is the Juan M. Tavares Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Radiologist-in-Chief at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also serves as secretary of the Academy of Radiology Research and is a member of the Advisory Committee to the Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additionally, he is the former chair of the ACR Commission on Molecular Imaging, a member of the ACR Task Force on International Teleradiology, and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR).

ACR Vice President — Lawrence P. Davis, MD, FACR, of New Hyde Park, NY, was elected by the Council to serve as vice president of the ACR. Dr. Davis was most recently chair of the ACR Commission on Education and has served as a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors since 2004. Dr. Davis is the current president of the Association of Program Directors in Radiology (APDR). He is interim chairman of Radiology at North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, where he also serves as program director for the radiology residency program at LIJ. Additionally, he is professor of clinical radiology and clinical nuclear medicine and Assistant Dean of Students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine for the LIJ affiliate.

ACR Secretary-Treasurer — Anne C. Roberts, MD, FACR, current member of the Board of Chancellors, was elected in January by the Board of Chancellors to serve as secretary-treasurer from May 2010 to May 2011, and will thereafter be eligible to be re-elected for one-year terms not to exceed six years on the Board. Dr. Roberts is executive vice chair of the Radiology Department and Chief of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of California, San Diego. She is also the current chair of ACR Commission on Interventional and Cardiovascular Radiology and a member of the ACR Commission on Quality and Safety and the Advisory Committee on Diagnostic Imaging Policy.
