In collaboration with NVIDIA, GE Healthcare is launching artificial intelligence capabilities in 500,000 of its imaging devices — that’s around half of the company’s operating scanners worldwide. Not only is this system-wide update a part of an initiative to improve imaging quality, but it’s also an effort to streamline healthcare data processing.
NVIDIA is a main player in the AI market. NVIDIA GPUs are featured in Tesla self-driving cars, robotics, and 3D gaming. The GPU technology is now integrated into GE Healthcare’s Revolution Family, a series of sophisticated imaging devices. GPU can be used to generate clearer and more accurate medical assessments. The technology is expected to help speed up exams and produce better quality medical images.
At the recent Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting, GE Healthcare announced the first in the series: the Revolution Frontier CT, a scanner that’s reportedly twice as fast as its former model. According to a press release, the Revolution Frontier "is expected to deliver better clinical outcomes in liver lesion detection and kidney lesion characterization because of its speed.” With these functions, there could be less of a need for follow-ups.
Other Revolution devices include the Vivid E95 4D Ultrasound System, which uses NVIDIA GPUs to accelerate visualization of blood flow, speed up analysis, and seamlessly integrate workflows across the cSound imaging platform.
GE Healthcare’s analytic platform modules will also use NVIDIA GPUs, NVIDIA CUDA, and NCIDIA GPU Cloud as a way to facilitate deep learning algorithms in clinical and operational applications.
