MEETING DESCRIPTION:
Radiologic practice continues to evolve through technological improvements with rapid MR and CT imaging. The radiologist must adapt to the impact of rapid scanning and large data sets. Evolving technology improves radiological practice not only through improved image quality for anatomical interpretation but development of imaging biomarkers. The use of high resolution MRI and MDCT and fast multi-phase imaging sequences also necessitates the ability to handle and review extremely large data sets. A further consequence of the higher resolution, multi-phase CT and MRI techniques is the recognition of potential patient risks and focus on contrast and radiation safety awareness. This course targets the community radiologist involved in body, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal imaging with a focus on pearls and pitfalls in current imaging techniques. Substantial time will be allotted for discussion and questions related to these imaging issues.
At the completion of the course, the attendee should have increased knowledge of current imaging technology and procedure protocols applicable to body imaging including:
1. Pearls & pitfalls in liver imaging
2. MRI of the female pelvis
3. Practical imaging approach to the pancreas
4. Appropriate use of cross-sectional imaging in the female pelvis
5. Sonography of the abdomen and pelvis
6. Current concepts in thoracic imaging
7. Basics and tips of cardiac imaging
8. Current limita tions and opportunities for radiology information technology
9. Approaches to dealing with large imaging data sets
10. Optimizing the yield from US and CT guided biopsy yield
11. Practical aspects of musculoskeletal MRI imaging of the major joints
