Description:
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Course and Hands on Workshop. The UCLA Department of Radiology in collaboration with key physicians from both UCLA Departments of Sports Medicine and Rheumatology, recognize the demand for this speciality skill and are proud to offer a fully comprehensive, hands on, learning opportunity. The MSK Ultrasound Course and Workshop, discuss in depth, the pertinent theoretical and practical points of upper and lower extremity ultrasound. The course entails a comprehensive overview of ultrasound topographic upper and lower extremity anatomy, including relevant landmarks, common indication for MSK ultrasound and the fundamental techniques for its use. The course also includes live split screen demonstrations which present the basic MSK sonography techniques and the optimal imaging essential for accurate application. The inclusive interactive, hands-ons workshop provides an opportunity to master the techniques through small group training with specialists. Learning Objectives: Review of anatomy and basic techniques. Identify the strengths and weaknesses of MSK ultrasound. Understand both the unique and complementary roles of ultrsound examination. Discuss cases which most likely benefit from the attributes of ultrasound. Become familiar with anatomic landmarks and specific maneuvers for a variety of anatomic regions. Understand equipment selection, including machines and probes. Describe normal and abnormal findings on ultrasound and to be able to recognize MSK-specific pitfalls and artifacts. Recognize the dynamic and interactive properties of an ultrasound examination. In an effort to expand on last year's request for additional speciality training, the Interventional Cadaver Lab option is now available. This is ideal in providing real life, real time training of image guided procedures to expand the clinical scope of care for attendees. Early registration for the optional cadaver lab is recommended, enrollment is limited to 24 participants. There is an additional fee for this workshop.
