MEETING DESCRIPTION:
The Annual Scientific Meeting has always offered the opportunity to meet with colleagues from around the world, renew acquaintances, make friends, exchange information about practices, compare notes, get ideas. This year, the meeting is programmed to that end. The theme is IR identity, IR community, IR: what works. The question we hope to answer is “How do you build/maintain/grow a successful IR practice?” The plenaries, including those on IR identity, economics and marketing are designed to help us answer that question. The IR community, a world community, will shine in “SIR Meets the Roman EmpIRe.” And the Roman EmpIRe, the original community builder, will color the entire meeting. A “forum” of luminaries has been recruited to offer opinions on many of the presentations. Thumbs up, thumbs down. Two other plenaries, JeopIRdy and Virtual IR, are entIRely new (yes, I’m branding “IR”; it’s a good idea). You want to be in the audience.

The meeting’s also always been the place to learn about the state of the art, to hear what’s going on in the world of research. That part hasn’t changed. Research remains preeminent and highlighted. Scientific sessions, smart people and two plenaries: “Research to Better Practice” (in keeping with the theme) and “Frontiers of IR.” There is some really great stuff going on in our field. Hear about it, be part of it.
