This year, the meeting is programmed to that en d. The theme is IR identity, IR community, IR: what works. The questio n we hope to answer is “How do you build/maintain/grow a successful IR practice?” The plenaries, including those on IR identity, economi cs and marketing are designed to help us answer that question. The IR community, a world community, will shine in “SIR Meets the Roman Emp IRe.” And the Roman EmpIRe, the original community builder, will col or the entire meeting. A “forum” of luminaries has been recruited to offer opinions on many of the presentations. Thumbs up, thumbs down . Two other plenaries, JeopIRdy and Virtual IR, are entIRely new (yes, I’m branding “IR”; it’s a good idea). You want to be in the a udience.\n\nThe meeting’s also always been the place to learn about the state of the art, to hear what’s going on in the world of resear ch. That part hasn’t changed. Research remains preeminent and highli ghted. Scientific sessions, smart people and two plenaries: “Researc h to Better Practice” (in keeping with the theme) and “Frontiers o f IR.” There is some really great stuff going on in our field.
