Event Description

MSK Ultrasound Applications for Regenerative Medicine Techniques: The Upper Extremities

This intermediate to advanced level MSK ultrasound program is designed to expand and update skills to integrate ultrasound-guided regenerative medicine techniques into clinical practice. Taught by world-renowned regenerative medicine and ultrasound experts, the program offers evidence based lectures on a variety of regenerative techniques, combined with extensive hands-on scanning of live models and guided injections of human cadaveric specimens. Participants will have an opportunity to prepare regenerative injectables and to practice ultrasound-guided injections for each of the target areas of the upper extremity.

Objectives

  1. Identify anatomy and pathoanatomy of the upper extremity joints (tendons, ligaments, muscle/fascia, and nerves).
  2. Outline the biology and evidence for use of various regenerative substances.
  3. State when, why, and how to integrate regenerative medicine as a practical treatment option.
  4. Prepare injectables for performing ultrasound-guided regenerative medicine techniques.
  5. List regenerative medicine targets for the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist.
  6. Outline post procedural protocols for upper extremity regenerative procedures
  7. Integrate ultrasound-guided regenerative medicine techniques into clinical practice.

Topics

  • Overview of anatomy and pathoanatomy of the upper extremity
  • Biology and Evidence for Regenerative Substances:
  • - Dextrose Prolotherapy
  • - Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
  • - Bone Marrow Aspirate (BMA)
  • - Lipoaspirate
  • - Amniotic Membrane and Cells
  • Essentials of US Guided Regenerative Medicine:
  • - Essential need for an accurate diagnosis
  • - US appearance of various structures – skin to bone
  • - Ultrasound guided injection techniques
  • - Post procedure protocols for regenerative medicine
  • - Nutritional optimization for soft tissue healing and chondroprotection
  • Preparing Dextrose and Amniotic Membrane Cell Injectables
  • Regenerative Medicine of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist
  • Hands-On Workshops: preparing injectables, live models, and human cadaveric specimens for regenerative medicine techniques
