MEETING DESCRIPTION:
The shortage of well-trained medical dosimetrists has made it difficult for clinical staff to train additional personnel. MTMI has extensive experience in conducting intensive short training courses. This course is designed to provide efficient training in medical dosimetry with a rapid introduction to basic principles and an emphasis on their practical application in the clinic.
This program is a comprehensive 2-week training course with the curriculum modeled after the AAMD Medical Dosimetry Education Programs Guidelines. The 2 weeks consist of 10 days of lecture and 2 days (Saturday and Sunday) of hands-on treatment planning training in small groups on treatment planning systems from various manufacturers in clinical sites around the Milwaukee area. Following the 2-week course it is recommended the trainee return to their facility to begin working in dosimetry under the supervision of a medical physicist or qualified dosimetrist. After 6 to 12 months of on-the-job experience the trainee could return for an Advanced Dosimetry Training Course. This advanced course will review basic dosimetry techniques and provide a more thorough training in complex radiation oncology treatment techniques.
Prerequisites for admission to the program includes certification as a RT(T) by the ARRT and at least 1 year of clinical experience as a radiation therapist or a BS degree in physics with some previous training on the basic concepts and procedures of radiation oncology and radiation safety.
The course is not specifically designed to serve as a review course for the MDCB registry examination. However, it would be an excellent review for an experienced dosimetrist needing formal training on the principles of dosimetry in preparation for the board examination.
This course provides 78.0 hours of Category A credit for Radiologic Technologists recognized by the ARRT and various licensure states.
This course also provides 63.5 hours of continuing medical education credit for Certified Medical Dosimetrists recognized by the MDCB.
A certificate of attendance will be provided for each individual upon completion of the course.
All attendees must attend the entire course to receive full credit.
