MEETING DESCRIPTION:
CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP INFORMATION Advanced Health Education Center offers clinical fellowship rotations as an enhancement to the preceding theory course in the selected modality. AHEC offers clinical fellowships to registered radiographers (RT, R) In the modalities of Mammography, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Cardiovascular Radiography. Fellowships are conducted In the Houston, TX area in hospitals, imaging facilities and urgent care facilities. The length of clinical fellowship training will vary by the modality selected. **No CE credit is awarded for clinical hours. In order to receive a certificate documenting clinical attendance, technologists must return their timesheet and copies of their clinical competency forms to the AHEC office via mail or fax to the attention of the respective fellowship coordinator. Modality Information Mammography Clinical Fellowship: (Option 2-2 day clinical fellowship-16 hours) In April 1999, the final rules of the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) became effective that required entry-level training for mammography including the performance of 25 patient procedures under the super-vision of a qualified mammographer. Radiologic Technologists from small facilities or who enter the training on their own will require a clinical site to acquire the required 25 patient procedures as per MQSA standards for the FDA. Advanced Health can provide a limited number of clinical training sites with qualified clinical faculty and student liability insurance for patient care activities. Students desiring this option should be registered and paid three weeks in advance of the class. It will require technologists to spend 6 days for the fellowship and seven days class if enrolled in the digital mammography course on the Monday following the theory portion of the fellowship course. Mammography Fellowship Coordinator: Susan Sprinkle-Vincent, AAS, RT,(R)(M)-Director/Consultant for Mammography Services. Clinical Fellowship Requirements Clinical Fellowship requires enrolled technologists to meet hospital and imaging center requirements as required by affiliation agreements and education departments. The following information must be submitted to obtain a clinical site rotation assignment.
