Objectives & Topics
At the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:
1. Explain ultrasound physics principles and imaging fundamentals for musculoskeletal imaging.
2. Describe techniques and protocols for performing shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, knee, ankle and foot ultrasound examinations.
3. Identify normal anatomy during musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
4. Explain the capabilities and limitations of musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging.
5. Identify sonographic appearance of commonly seen pathology of the shoulder, knee, elbow wrist hand, ankle and foot.
6. State the indications and benefits of MSK ultrasound for sports medicine injuries, physical medicine & rehabilitation, and rheumatology applications.
7. Explain the use of MSK sonography for diagnosis and ultrasound-guided interventions.
8. Discuss the indications/findings for MSK hip and spine sonography.
9. Describe “in-plane” and “out of plane” injection and aspiration techniques.
10. Increase the participant’s knowledge to better perform and/or interpret MSK U/S examinations.
11. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, ideally under supervised conditions until an acceptable level of proficiency has been achieved.
12. Optional: Perform ultrasound-guided injection techniques on human cadaver specimens.

Target Audience
Any physician, sonographer, PA or other medical professional who will be involved in diagnostic MSK ultrasound evaluations. Participants may include (but are not limited to) physicians and sonographers working in rheumatology, sports medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, podiatry, athletic training, orthopedics, emergency medicine, radiology, internal medicine, and family practice. PA’s may also attend.
