Workshop Description

Working in collaboration with the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Gulfcoast Ultrasound designed this workshop to complement participation in the Introduction to MSK Ultrasound program. Participants will have an opportunity to perform ultrasound-guided injection and aspiration techniques on cadaver specimens.

The optional session will develop skills, enhance confidence, and minimize barriers to integrate these techniques into clinical practice.

Registration is limited to individuals who are registered for the August 23-25, 2010 course.

Course Objectives

In addition to the main Course Objectives for the Intro to Musculoskeletal course, at the completion of the program the physician, rheumatologist, sonographer or other medical professional participant should also be able to:

1. Explain use of MSK sonography for ultrasound-guided interventions.
2. Describe “in-plane” and “out of plane” injection and aspiration techniques.
3. Increase knowledge and confidence to perform ultrasound-guided injection and aspiration techniques.
4. Apply the skills learned in a clinical setting under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.

Course Topics

* Live Demonstration: Ultrasound-Guided injection/aspiration techniques
* Hands-on sessions where participants perform injection/aspiration techniques using cadaver specimen
