Event Description

The International Paediatric Radiology Congress, which is held every tenth year in Europe, is coming to London from the 27th 31st May 2011, at the Metropole Hilton Hotel.  This event is being organised by the joint societies of Paediatric Radiology, the European Society of Paediatric Radiology (ESPR) and the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) and supported by the Asian Oceanic Society for Paediatric Radiology (AOSPR) and Sociedad Latino Americana de Radiología Pediátrica (SLARP).

There is an exciting and extensive programme on offer which includes; a wide selection of world renowned speakers, debates, competitions, a selection of six different sunrise sessions each morning, 200 posters, and a series of state of the art mini-symposia.  The social programme makes the most of London’s legendary and unique artistic, historic and architectural heritage.

On Friday 27th May there are summits being held on both Radiation Protection and Paediatric Ultrasound.  Details are listed below.

Radiation Protection Summit

This is an unusual opportunity to hear some of the latest developments on ultrasound and radiation safety. The radiation safety symposium offers a platform to a number of world renowned speakers and researchers:  Professor Willi Kallender, (Erlangen, Germany) Dr Paul Shrimpton (lead physicist HPA aka NRPB), and Dr Keith Strauss (Image Gently USA) who have written seminal articles and performed extensive research into medical radiation.

The symposium includes didactic lectures delivered by world leading physicists and medical practitioners, and thence interactive debates with point /counterpoint ideas on whether we should consent patients for radiation exposures.

This will be a superb opportunity to keep up-to-date for anyone involved in imaging, and it will help to ensure that all medical and paramedical staff speak the same language when outlining the evidence based effects, and the consequences of medical radiation burden on young populations.

All radiologists, radiographers, physicists, and nurses working in medical radiation are encouraged to attend and join this unique gathering of international experts, which appropriately launches an important International Paediatric Radiology congress. www.ipr2011.org. It qualifies for 4 CME credits.

Paediatric Ultrasound Summit

This unique summit of international leaders in paediatric ultrasound will review the current and future practice of neonatal and paediatric sonography.

Twelve experts will be taking the stage offering unique insights into the rapidly developing world of medical ultrasound. Areas to be covered include advances in neonatal cranial, spine and gastrointestinal sonography, paediatric applications for transcranial Doppler, and updates in chest, renal and musculoskeletal paediatric imaging.

The future role of volumetric ultrasound, elastography, and contrast agents in paediatrics will be addressed as well.   This symposium will be of interest to anyone working using ultrasound in paediatrics in particular as well as, sonographers, vascular technologists, nurse midwives and other participants.
