MEETING DESCRIPTION:
UCSF Radiology is pleased to offer its second diagnostic imaging course in Washington, DC, featuring helical multi-detector row CT (MDCT) and MRI as applied to diseases in the brain, chest, abdomen and pelvis. Newer and established cross-sectional methods will be discussed. For MDCT, emphasis will be placed on high-resolution chest CT, the diagnosis of pulmonary artery and aortic abnormalities, CTA of the heart and coronary arteries, lung cancer and the solitary nodule, and use of multiplanar reformations (MPRs) for abdomen and pelvis. The use of neutral oral contrast material and proper timing of intravenous contrast agent with fast scanning will be emphasized. In-depth technical explanation for CT and MR enterography and its results will be outlined. For MRI, state-of-the-art techniques will be addressed, especially breath-hold imaging and its results.

The diagnostic challenge of assessing manifestations of various focal and diffuse conditions in pancreas, small bowel and colon will be addressed with MDCT. Also, various interventional procedures will be discussed including transcatheter embolization techniques, venous interventional procedures and established as well as cutting edge MR applications for image-guided therapy. Practical applications of all these techniques will be stressed and radiological information updated to present-day imaging.

EARN SAM CREDIT
In addition, an opportunity for completion of two Self-Assessment Modules will be offered. “HRCT of the Interstitial Pneumonias” (ABR #UCSS02B0608-414) was approved for 1 SAM credit on June 27,2008 and is qualified by the American Board of Radiology in meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfilling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certification Program. The second SAM, “Imaging of Pancreatic Tumors” is pending approval for 1 SAM credit.

By the end of this course, the attendee should be able to:

1. Describe the use of MDCTA in the diagnosis of coronary artery, cardiac, aortic, and pulmonary artery abnormalities;
2. Diagnose airways diseases, common lung diseases, and the idiopathic interstitial pneumonias using HRCT;
3. Identify characteristics of the solitary lung nodule important in diagnosis;
4. Describe the use of imaging in the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury, brain herniation, and facial trauma;
5. Identify current techniques for assessing the pancreas, small bowel and colon by MDCT and MR;
6. Diagnose the various conditions in the small bowel and colon by CT/MR;
7. Diagnose abnormalities of the brain using CT/MR;
8. Relate current imaging approaches for oncologic problems, including lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal and pancreatic neoplasms;
9. Describe the optimal radiological imaging approaches to a large variety of abnormalities and pathological conditions in chest, abdomen and pelvis;
10. Identify current and updated applications in interventional radiology including imaging-guided therapy.
