\n\nMEETING DESCRIPTION:\nUCSF Radiology is pleased to offer its secon
d diagnostic imaging course in Washington, DC, featuring helical multi
-detector row CT (MDCT) and MRI as applied to diseases in the brain, c
hest, abdomen and pelvis. Newer and established cross-sectional method
s will be discussed. For MDCT, emphasis will be placed on high-resolut
ion chest CT, the diagnosis of pulmonary artery and aortic abnormaliti
es, CTA of the heart and coronary arteries, lung cancer and the solita
ry nodule, and use of multiplanar reformations (MPRs) for abdomen and
pelvis. The use of neutral oral contrast material and proper timing of
intravenous contrast agent with fast scanning will be emphasized. In-
depth technical explanation for CT and MR enterography and its results
will be outlined. For MRI, state-of-the-art techniques will be addres
sed, especially breath-hold imaging and its results.\n\nThe diagnostic
challenge of assessing manifestations of various focal and diffuse co
nditions in pancreas, small bowel and colon will be addressed with MDC
 T. Also, various interventional procedures will be discussed including
transcatheter embolization techniques, venous interventional procedur
es and established as well as cutting edge MR applications for image-g
uided therapy. Practical applications of all these techniques will be
stressed and radiological information updated to present-day imaging.\
n\nEARN SAM CREDIT\nIn addition, an opportunity for completion of two
Self-Assessment Modules will be offered. “HRCT of the Interstitial P
neumonias” (ABR #UCSS02B0608-414) was approved for 1 SAM credit on J
une 27,2008 and is qualified by the American Board of Radiology in mee
ting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfilling
requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certification Program. The sec
ond SAM, “Imaging of Pancreatic Tumors” is pending approval for 1
SAM credit.\n\nBy the end of this course, the attendee should be able
to:\n\n1. Describe the use of MDCTA in the diagnosis of coronary arter
y, cardiac, aortic, and pulmonary artery abnormalities;\n2. Diagnose a
irways diseases, common lung diseases, and the idiopathic interstitial
pneumonias using HRCT;\n3. Identify characteristics of the solitary l
ung nodule important in diagnosis;\n4. Describe the use of imaging in
the diagnosis of traumatic brain injury, brain herniation, and facial
trauma;\n5. Identify current techniques for assessing the pancreas, sm
all bowel and colon by MDCT and MR;\n6. Diagnose the various condition
s in the small bowel and colon by CT/MR;\n7. Diagnose abnormalities of
the brain using CT/MR;\n8. Relate current imaging approaches for onco
logic problems, including lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal and panc
reatic neoplasms;\n9. Describe the optimal radiological imaging approa
ches to a large variety of abnormalities and pathological conditions i
n chest, abdomen and pelvis;\n10. Identify current and updated applica
tions in interventional radiology including imaging-guided therapy.\n\
