MEETING DESCRIPTION:
At the completion of the program the participant should be able to:
1. Identify the anatomy/physiology of the upper and lower extremity venous and arterial systems.
2. Discuss Doppler/color physics and be able to (sonographers) apply these principles to optimize system controls or (physicians) utilize this information for recognizing technical errors which may result in misdiagnosis.
3. Perform routine scan protocols & document Doppler waveforms for arterial & venous evaluations of the lower extremity.
4. Perform routine scan protocol for upper extremity venous evaluation.
5. Identify normal/abnormal spectral Doppler/color characteristics & waveform characteristics for identifying arterial & venous disease. Explain methods for obtaining quantitative information & the diagnostic relevance of each measurement.
6. Recognize image characteristics of acute versus chronic DVT.
7. State the indications and applications of indirect testing methods for lower arterial disease.
8. Apply the information discussed in a clinical setting, under supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.
