Continuing Medical Education Mission

The department derives its mission from the Cleveland Clinic's founding mission "to provide better care of the sick, investigation of their problems, and further education of those who serve." Cleveland Clinic Florida is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge through continuing education. The purpose of the continuing medical education program is to provide educational opportunities of a high quality and a wide variety to physicians, nurses, and to other healthcare professionals. Our mission is to develop educational programs of an appropriate scope and depth to satisfy the needs for knowledge and skill development, which participants wish to acquire, develop or reinforce.

Target Audience

Colorectal surgeons, general surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, and other health professionals interested in performing and interpreting anal and rectal ultrasonography

Objectives
At the end of this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to:

• Understand the indications and rationale for the endorectal ultrasonography
• Identify the ultrasonogrpahic apperance of rectal cancer and the different stages of depth of penetration, ie. T1, T2, T3 and T4, as well as the appearance of a metastatic lymph node
• Identify the ultrasonographic appearance of the anatomy of anal abscess and fistula, to include the internal opening and the fistula tract
• Identify the ultrasonographic appearance of internal and external anal sphincter defects
• Identify the ultrasonographic appearance of normal anorectal anatomy
