MEETING DESCRIPTION:
Echocardiography: Making Sense of the Data

The interpretation of an echocardiogram has become more than just evaluating wall motion abnormalities to calculate an ejection fraction. Current equipment provides the clinician with a wealth of information unimagined several years ago. Interpreters find it increasingly difficult to make sense of the reams of information provided by the cardiac sonographer. You will learn in this course to discriminate the exam numbers to correlate them to the clinical management of the patient. Course topics include the interpretation of the data emphasizing the basic understanding of what those numbers mean. Obvious hemodynamic abnormalities as well as subtle findings will be discussed in a logical and concise program designed for the “real world” echo lab. You may also find this course is a great way to document formal training for accreditation.

Course Topics
• 2-D measurements
• M-Mode analysis
• Color flow Doppler
• Pulsed and Continuous Doppler measurements and analysis
• Continuity equation
• Simpson’s method of Disks
• Tissue Doppler
• Diastology
• Systolic dysfunction
• Contrast media
• Analysis of valvular regurgitation
• Valvular stenosis and Valve area
• Pulmonary artery pressure measurements
• Current ASE requirements for a complete Transthoracic Echocardiogram
