Event Description

Diagnostic and Therapeutic
Approaches to Vascular Disease

Register for the D. Eugene Strandness, Jr. Symposium Today!

This 4-day program continues the tradition of biennial comprehensive symposia dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of vascular disease, first established by Dr. D. Eugene Strandness in 1987. The popularity of this program has continued to grow and the legacy of Dr. Strandneee' committment to education has been carried on with the symposium now organized by a core faculty of former Strandness fellows and technologists.

Dr. Strandness published 3 editions of a popular and successful textbook on duplex scanning, the last one in 2002. A 4th edition, now titled Strandness's Duplex Scanning in Vascular Disorders, was released in January 2010. This is an entirely new book, with many of the chapters written by the same Strandness fellows and technologists that make up the core faculty for the 2011 symposium. The contents of this book will serve as the foundation for the topics covered during the program.

The vascular laboratory is an essential resource for the management of arterial and venous disease, and this program provides a review and update of all the major testing areas: cerebrovascular, venous, peripheral arterial, and visceral vascular. The program will emphasize new applications, such as follow-up of endovascular procedures. Important topics in laboratory management will be discussed, including accreditation, billing, and quality assurance. The role of the vascular laboratory in arterial and venous interventions will also be covered.

This symposium includes 4 days of morning plenary sessions as well as 3 days of afternoon workshops that allow smaller groups to explore selected topics in greater depth. An interpretation review course will be offered on the afternoon of the fourth day for physicians, songraphers, and other health-care providers interested in a more in-depth discussion of vascular laboratory interpretation and reporting.

All this takes place in a resort setting with time left over to enjoy the beautiful island of Maui.
