MEETING DESCRIPTION:
ABOUT THE MEETING

This symposium provides a practical teaching course for those who order, perform or interpret magnetic resonance imaging studies. The program is organized in such a way to allow registrants to attend all or just a portion of the meeting. Three focused segments provide a comprehensive yet practical review and update on the clinical applications of MRI. The meeting begins by focusing on the head and spine, moves into the musculoskeletal system and concludes with cardiovascular and body applications.

A special segment of the program focuses on equipment comparisons and capabilities. Those registrants planning to purchase MRI equipment should find this Wednesday morning session particularly valuable as companies discuss their present capabilities and their plans for the future.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This CME activity is primarily intended and designed to educate diagnostic imaging physicians who supervise and interpret MRI/MRA studies. It should also be useful for referring physicians who order these studies so that they might gain a greater appreciation of the strengths and limitations of clinically relevant MRI exams. Technologists performing these types of imaging exams should also gain benefit from this symposium.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Attendees, at the completion of this course, should be able to:

Recognize the appearance of normal anatomy and common pathology of all organ systems as seen with MRI
Implement into practice protocols for MR angiography such as neurological, body and cardiac applications
Discuss the clinical benefits of perfusion, diffusion, and functional imaging techniques
Incorporate state of the art spine imaging protocols to clinical practice
Utilize MRI to evaluate patients with actual or suspected musculoskeletal pathology
Describe the expanding clinical applications of MRI in assessing pathology of the abdomen
Evaluate the use of MRI in the assessment of breast pathology
Describe expanding clinical applications for MRI in the assessment of cardiac disease
Apply MR safety and contrast enhanced imaging guidelines to clinical practice
