Toshiba Medical Systems exhibited the next generation of CT diagnostic imaging equipment, the Aquilion ONE, at the 2008 International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging (ITEM Expo).
The Aquilion ONE is the world's first diagnostic imaging system that can scan an entire organ, such as the brain and heart, in one rotation, because it has a scan width of up to 160mm using 320 rows of area detector elements. Entire organs can be dynamically diagnosed using the Aquilion ONE system because it displays visual representations of volume data in a time series.
In addition, because the new CT system is also easier on patients due to its lower radiation exposure and its drastic reduction in scanning time, it can be potentially used in emergency examinations and on young children.
Currently, there are 14 Aquilion ONE systems in operation worldwide and Toshiba intends to release an additional 200 systems within the year.
