January 2007 (Medialink) -- Siemens Medical Solutions completed its transition to an integrated diagnostics company with the close of its $5.3 billion dollar acquisition of Bayer Diagnostics. This acquisition, combined with Siemens recent $1.8 billion dollar acquisition of Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC) makes Siemens the first healthcare solutions company to integrate medical imaging, in vivo and in vitro diagnostics, and information technology within an entire healthcare network.
Siemens will introduce "molecular medicine where diagnostic imaging ("in vivo") converges with lab diagnostics ("in-vitro"), all linked by information technology to provide clinicians with the tightly integrated tools needed to deliver high quality, efficient healthcare to patients.
Healthcare professionals agree that the single most important advantage a patient can have when faced with a life-threatening disease is early detection. A faster diagnosis enables a quicker start to appropriate therapy. Siemens is perfectly positioned to play a critical role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients across the globe.
