CHICAGO, Dec. 4 -- Stroke patients can be effectively rehabilitated long after the generally accepted three-to-six-month rehabilitation window, researchers said here.
Eight weeks of hand-grip exercises, begun more than six months after a stroke, resulted in significantly increased activity in the cortex, the area of the brain that corresponds with hand use, Aria Tzika, Ph.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital, told attendees at the Radiological Society of North America meeting.
