The 3 Tesla Prisma Promises Benefits Unmatched by Other MRIs

New super charged MRI technology is being implemented in London hospitals that could expedite scanning and treatment for diseases in the heart and brain. The 3 Tesla Prisma, scheduled to be operational next month, is turbo charged with supplementary Siemens software that will enhance MRI processing power. According to the Express, the 3 Tesla Prisma can produce scans for around 6,000 patients a year.

Tesla (T) is not only the name of a self-driving car, it’s also a unit of measurement calculating the strength of a magnetic field. This cutting-edge MRI is financed by the Queen Square Enterprises (QSE) and the University College London Hospitals and will be installed in both National Health Service hospitals and private clinics. The MRI’s most significant advantage is that it will speed up diagnosis and treatment times.

The technology has been paid for by Queen Square Enterprises (QSE), owned by the charitable arm of the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) trust, and will benefit both NHS and private patients. Peter Sutton, claims that the machine will allow “a patient [to] see a specialist in the morning, have an MRI scan, and by the afternoon, an experienced cardiologist can report back to them with a personalized treatment plan.”

One significant attribute that makes the 3T stand out from other MRIs, is that it can scan patients with pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators. The QSE says they’re committed to providing scans for folks with cardiac devices.

“The bottom line is that we want to diagnose disease earlier so that we can start treatment to stop it becoming symptomatic. And the upgraded scanners mean we’re going to use advanced capabilities to see further than ever before. “
