Sonologists, ER physicians get joint FAST guidelines -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The guideline for the performance of focused assessment with sonography in trauma (FAST) examination describes clinical indications that call for the study. It also lists the qualifications for physicians performing the exam, quality control and safety standards, and technical require;ments for specific tests. According to AIUM officials, more than 95% of emergency medicine residents now learn to perform FAST. “The future use of this technology lies in working collaboratively with other societies to develop uniform guidelines for performing ultrasound examinations,” said AIUM president Dr. Joshua Copel.
