Siemens has just received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its MAGNETOM Sola, a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner. It features BioMatrix technology, which is designed to accommodate a wide variety of patient bodies.
The BioMatrix Sensors are able to assess the patient’s body specifications as they lay down on the table, making it easy for technicians to determine which scanning procedures to administer. The built-in breathing sensors make it unnecessary to use navigators with breath-triggered sequences. The BioMatrix Turners have integrated hardware and software elements that diminish distortion when imaging the head, neck, and spine. The BioMatrix Interface incorporates artificial intelligence and body models that accelerate patient positioning.
The sophisticated scanner has a wide bore (70 cm) and a 50x50x50 cm field of view with a camera so that technicians can monitor patients. Created with patient comfort in mind, the super lightweight anatomy-adaptive coils generate high signal-to-noise ratio of up to 204 RF channels. It also boasts impressive scan times, and its Compressed Sensing speeds up cardiac and dynamic liver exams and decreases musculoskeletal scan procedure times by 46 percent.
“With the MAGNETOM Sola, we provide the 1.5T market with the latest MRI advancements designed to overcome the challenges of imaging diverse patient populations,” said Jane Kilkenney, Vice President of Magnetic Resonance, Siemens Healthineers North America in a press release. “By delivering unmatched levels of automation and personalization that address patient and user variability, we enable customers to achieve high-quality imaging – consistently and efficiently – across all patients and procedures.”
