Hayes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The choices may not be all that stark, but debate persists over who controls PACS—radiology or IT. The question was contested by two able advocates at the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine meeting. Much of what is considered PACS today is already under control of the IT department, said Dr. Paul Chang of the University of Chicago. He argued that long-term trends such as the move toward centralized data storage, growing importance of ima¬ges to the electronic health record, and need for tighter integration of all data sources speak for an enterprise approach to the management of medical data, including imaging.
