A leading hospital is currently at risk of repeating the
Tallaght X-ray scandal after it was reported that the hospital is
not sending vital medical documents to GPs. It was noted that
Mallow General Hospital has failed in sending completed X-ray files since last April. However, HSE officials are denying.
Updates: X-rays of a patient at the
Tallahagt hospital in Dublin were not checked by a radiologist. This patient was died before
his
X-rays were revised. Moreover, around 57,000 X-rays images carried out
at the hospital in Dublin during (2005-2009) were not revised by a
consultant radiologist. This situation affects only adult patients and
does not relate to children's X-rays. The hospital expressed its deep
regrets and sorrow, as two patients had a delayed diagnosis as a result.
One died last summer and the other is currently having treatment for
cancer. Tallaght hospital mentioned that it has expressed regrets to the
family of the patient who died as a result of that delayed diagnosis
this afternoon. The hospital added that it had talked to the other
patient today as well.
