San Francisco based-Enlitic, a medical deep learning company, and Paiyipai, a market leader in the field of medical analysis located in Beijing have announced they’re joining forces in China’s expansive health check center system.
This month, the two biotech companies signed a MOU declaring the distribution of Enlitic’s deep learning software in China. Enlicit uses multidisciplinary data to streamline pharmaceutical research, clinical trials and improve diagnostic practices. Paiyipai is one of the largest health check companies in China, and their centers receive over 15 million patients a year. The partnership came about after the successful completion of a clinical trial of 10,000 chest x-rays that were performed using Enlitic’s patient triage platform.
Privatized healthcare was introduced in China in 1987, and since then the system has grown enormously. According to a 2010 study from Linköping University in Sweden, from 1998 to 2005, the number of private health care practices grew from 126,068 to 156,000 — 24,000 more than public facilities. The health check centers are a main component of the country’s privatized health care system, and they provide regular check-ups and basic medical services. According to TheStreet, the health check center industry generates approximately $11 billion a year. There are approximately 300 million people who use the services who are mainly from poor and disadvantaged populations.
"Deep learning supported diagnostic solutions delivered across a growing network will drive significant efficiencies in healthcare delivery, and provide rich insights to improve early detection, treatment planning, and disease monitoring,” said Sally Daub, Enlitic’s CEO in a statement. “We are very excited about what this large-scale deployment will mean for healthcare in the 21st century.”
