September 17, 2008 Breast MRI before irradiation zeros in on remote multifocal disease Rebekah Moan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Potential candidates for accelerated partial breast irradiation may benefit from pretreatment MRI to ensure no cancer is missed, according to a study conducted by Boston-based researchers. Dr. Juan Godinez of the radiation oncology department at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and colleagues found that breast MRI reveals mammographically occult cancer foci in 38% of cases.
