The American College of Radiology will award three radiologists with Gold Medals for their contributions to the specialty at the organization’s May 2019 conference.
The medal-winning physicians Bibb Allen, Jr, MD, Manuel L. Brown, MD, and David C. Kushner, MD have all been practicing radiologists for decades and each has held prominent leadership positions.
Dr. Allen is the chief medical officer of the ACR’s Data Science Institute and former chair of the college’s board of chancellors. The Birmingham, Alabama-based radiologist has been practicing for 35 years. He entered medicine as a surgery resident but changed to radiology after undergoing back surgery.
Dr. Brown has been the Radiology Chair at the Henry Ford Hospital and Health Network since 2001 and was the former president of the American College of Radiology and chair of the ACR Nuclear Medicine Commission. He completed his residency at Rochester General Hospital in 1975. He has published numerous articles on work culture and challenge in radiology.
Dr. Kushner has been practicing radiology for nearly half a century. He was formerly president of the ACR and chair of the ACR Commission on Membership and Communications. He currently serves as the Associate Medical Director for Quality and Safety at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia.
The ACR Board of Chancellors have also awarded Honorary Fellowships to Seung Hyup Kim, MD, radiology and urology professor at Seoul National University in South Korea, and Anne W.M. Lee, MD, a clinical professor and head of the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Clinical Oncology.
