Meyersdale Medical Center, a technological firm based in USA recently got a big technology breakthrough as they started using a sixteen slice scanner from the already existing single slice CT scanner.
Mark Meekins, Director at the medical center said that technology of this sort in a small town meant great opportunity for their rural facility as from now on they will be able to offer high level of care and quality to their patients.
Today, this scanner is not only running for twenty-four hours a day but also patients who come in times of emergency now have the option of staying close to their homes rather than travelling to metropolitan areas. Since the scanner was upgraded, the medical center is now able to do about twenty more scans in a month, totally amounting to about 230 scans in any given month.
If this is not enough, then this new technology upgrade allows the upgraded imaging equipment at Meyersdale to perform the high-tech scans such as CT pulmonary embolism chest exams or angiography, for the first time.
Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc., one of the scanner manufacturers, begun discussions with this facility last year to install a new scanner, but the medical centre could not afford it then. But with the help of the local community, by publishing about their needs in magazines and by communicating about their need to the Siemens Inc., they were able to erect the equipment in their facility itself.
