Salter-Harris Fracture: Type II

In children; growth plate is the weakest, and one of the most fractured sites in long bones (15% of pediatric fractures). The Salter-Harris classification allows easy radiographic classification and is a reasonable indicator of prognosis.
This case illustrates growth plate fracture, extending through metaphysis of distal phalanx of thumb denoting type II Salter-Harris fracture. This is the most common type, making up approximately 75% of these fractures. Prognosis is generally favorable for healing without deformity.
