Portal Hypertension

This 37 year-old male with known chronic liver disease presented with abdominal pain. The CT (click image for arrows) shows evidence of cirrhosis with nodular liver surface (open arrows) and relative enlargement of the left lobe. There is also evidence of portal hypertension with a recanalised umbilical vein (large black arrow), and splenomegaly (curved arrow).
Cruveilhier-Baumgarten syndrome is cirrhosis, portal hypertension and enlargement of umbilical or periumbilical veins (forming a portosystemic anastomosis). Cruveilhier himself described enlarged periumbilical veins in a soldier who had a history of trauma, without cirrhosis.
